Printing our books

Caring for the environment and our customers

We care about the printing process, who we work with and our environment.

When deciding how to print our books we could have gone down the “who’s cheapest” route but that wasn’t something we were comfortable with.

Early in the process we started working with Mark Stewart at Wells Print. Wells Print are a family-run business that has been producing beautiful print for some of the country’s most prestigious brands, charities and environmental organisations for over 25 years!

We are in good hands!

“Spending 20 years surrounded by the Mendip Hills provided us with much inspiration and a drive to do things differently. Our love of the countryside and our care for the environment motivated us to try and become one of the country’s most environmentally responsible printing companies, something we feel we have achieved. Mark Stewart, Sales Director

Wells Print and MLB recognise the environmental concerns over print production and take these concerns very seriously. Wells Print have taken the following steps to ensure best practice and are continually looking to improve as technology allows:

  • Wells have been ISO14001 certified since 2005.

  • Wells operate to the ISO14001 environmental management standard and have done so for the last 15 years, this independent environmental management system ensures that they continually reduce the environmental impact of their business on our local and wider environment.

  • Maintaining ISO14001 certification requires evidence that Wells continually work to reduce impact on the environment. But more than this, they continually improve because they actually care.

  • Wells are FSC® & PEFC™ certified.

  • Alcohol free print (0%) – Wells have been Alcohol free for over 10 years.

  • Wells use 100% renewable energy to power their plant and have done for the past 10 years.

  • Zero waste to landfill.

  • Wells use carbon balanced paper.

  • Wells have used vegetable-based inks for over a decade.

  • Wells recycle all used Epson ink cartridges.

  • Wells recycle 100% of our paper waste.

  • Wells recycle 100% of our cardboard waste.

At Muddy Little Boots we are always looking to strike a balance between being profitable, and thus being able to continue producing and delivering quality children’s stories, whilst minimising the impact on our environment. Our latest book, There’s No Deer Around Here carries the following print information:

Papers used for this book are FSC® Mixed certified, Elemental Chlorine Free and are manufactured at a mill which is ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified.

Printed by Wells Printing, Bath, England. An IS0 14001 and FSC accredited company using 100% renewable energy and vegetable based inks.

We are actively looking to introduce eco laminates and gloss treatments to our books and will update you as soon as we make this shift.
